Hamburger Pie - cooking recipe

1 1/2 lb. lean ground beef
1/2 tsp. salt
dash of pepper
1 (6 oz.) can tomato paste
1/2 c. dry breadcrumbs
1 c. regular, raw rice
2 c. water
1 small onion, chopped
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. ground savory
1/2 tsp. thyme
1/2 tsp. marjoram
1/2 tsp. celery salt
1/4 tsp. rosemary
1/8 tsp. white pepper
1 tsp. dried parsley
1 Tbsp. butter
1/2 c. grated Cheddar cheese
Preparation

Preheat oven to 400\u00b0.
Mix first 5 ingredients well and press into a deep 10-inch pie plate, as for a crust.
Bake 40 minutes. In the meantime, combine rice, water, onion and seasonings in a heavy saucepan with lid.
Let sit for 20 minutes without heat. After 20 minutes, bring to a boil; stir once.
Reduce heat to low and simmer, covered, 20 minutes.
Stir in butter.
Remove meat from the oven and drain off any fat.
Top the meat with the rice, smoothing it to the edges of the pie plate.
Sprinkle with cheese and return to the oven for a few minutes until cheese melts.
Let sit 10 minutes before cutting into wedges.
Serves 6.
