Shortcut Pickled Beets - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 (No. 303) can whole or sliced beets, drained
    1/2 c. reserved beet juice
    3/4 c. vinegar
    1/4 c. sugar
    1 tsp. salt
    4 whole cloves
    1 small bay leaf (optional)
    1 medium onion, thinly sliced (optional)
Preparation
    In saucepan, combine all ingredients, except beets.
    Simmer 5 minutes.
    Place hot beet liquid and beets in container with cover. Cool; refrigerate 24 to 36 hours.
    Remove cloves before serving.
