Old Fashioned Beef Stew - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1/3 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
2 lb. stew beef
4 Tbsp. shortening
1 Tbsp. lemon juice
1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 large onion, sliced
2 bay leaves
1/4 tsp. allspice
12 small carrots
12 small white onions
8 small potatoes
Preparation

Mix flour, salt and pepper; roll beef cubes in mixture.
Shake off excess.
Melt shortening over high heat. Brown beef on all sides. Pour on 4 cups boiling water. Stir and add lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, onion, bay leaves and allspice.
Lower heat, cover and simmer 1 1/2 to 2 hours until meat is tender.
Add vegetables and cook 20 to 25 minutes.
Serves 4.
