String Beans Provencale - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 Tbsp. olive oil
    4 medium onions, chopped (2 c.)
    4 garlic cloves, chopped
    1 (28 oz.) can plum tomatoes in thick puree or add tomato sauce to tomatoes
    2 tsp. leaf thyme, crumbled
    2 tsp. sugar
    1/4 tsp. salt
    4 tsp. pepper
    2 lb. string beans, trimmed and halved or 50 oz. canned, drained
Preparation
    Heat oil in Dutch oven over medium heat.
    Add onion and garlic. Cook, stirring occasionally, 8 minutes or until soft.
    Add tomatoes, thyme, sugar, salt and pepper, breaking up tomatoes with back of spoon.
    Stir in string beans; simmer, covered, stirring occasionally, 25 to 35 minutes or until tender.
    (Can be made a day ahead and refrigerated.)
    Serve hot or warm.
