Kosher Dills - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    cucumbers
    alum
    cloves garlic or minced garlic
    dill
    3 qt. water
    1 qt. vinegar
    scant 3/4 c. salt
    1/4 to 1/2 tsp. turmeric
Preparation
    Soak in cold water
    for
    5 hours enough cucumbers for 7 quarts, then slice and put
    in
    jars.
    In
    bottom of each jar, put 1/4 teaspoon alum,
    1
    clove garlic or 1/2 teaspoon minced garlic and scant 1 teaspoon dill.
    Bring remaining ingredients to a boil and pour over pickles and seal.
