Pecan Pralines - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 c. sugar
    1/2 c. buttermilk
    1 Tbsp. white corn syrup
    1/2 tsp. baking soda
    1/4 c. butter
    1/2 tsp. vanilla
    1 c. chopped pecans
Preparation
    Combine sugar, buttermilk, syrup and soda.
    Cook slowly in a heavy pot until the mixture forms a soft ball, about 20 minutes. Use a candy thermometer (235\u00b0).
    Remove from heat.
    Add butter, vanilla and pecans.
    Beat until smooth and creamy using a wooden spoon.
    Drop by tablespoon onto waxed paper.
    If candy does not harden within 10 minutes of dropping, it can be cooked a few minutes more.
