Tomato Pudding - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 qt. drained cooked tomatoes
    1/2 c. brown sugar or more to taste
    4 or 5 slices whole wheat bread (pieces)
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1/2 tsp. nutmeg
    1/4 tsp. cloves
Preparation
    Cook tomatoes and bread slowly (over low or medium heat) for a half to three-quarters hour, stirring frequently.
    Add brown sugar and spices and continue cooking (and stirring) until mixture attains a thick consistency.
    Can be served alone, as a vegetable, or over beans or black-eyed peas.
    Especially appropriate for New Year's Day.
