2 c. sugar (1 c. white and 1 c. brown)
1/4 tsp. baking powder
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1/2 tsp. allspice
1/2 c. soft shortening
1/2 c. water
1 1/2 c. unsweetened applesauce
1 large egg
