Ingredients

1 1/4 c. milk, scalded
1/4 c. shortening
1/2 Tbsp. salt
1 cake yeast
5 c. sifted flour
3 eggs
3/4 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/8 tsp. mace
Preparation

Combine milk, shortening and salt; cool to lukewarm.
Add yeast.
Let stand 5 minutes.
Add 2 1/2 cups flour; beat until smooth.
Cover; let rise until bubbly.
Add eggs and sugar mixed with spices.
Mix well.
Add enough remaining flour to make dough that can be kneaded.
Let rise until doubled in bulk.
Roll out 1/2-inch thick.
Cut into doughnuts.
Let raise on doughboard until double in bulk.
