Fourth Of July Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sugar
    6 tsp. baking powder
    2 c. milk
    2 tsp. vanilla
    2 eggs
    1/2 c. shortening
    4 c. flour
    2 tsp. salt
    1 pt. sliced strawberries
    1 pt. blueberries
    1 large bowl Cool Whip
Preparation
    Put the first 8 ingredients in bowl; mix by hand until smooth. Bake in a 9 x 13-inch pan at 350\u00b0 until cake tester comes out clean (about 45 minutes to 1 hour).
    When cake is cool, slice into 2 layers and remove top layer.
    Sprinkle 1/2 of each kind of berry over bottom layer.
    Replace top layer.
    Spread whipped topping on top.
    Arrange remaining berries to look like the American flag (small rows of blueberries in a small square in upper left hand corner and strawberries in horizontal rows across the rest of the cake).
