Scalloped Tomatoes #2 - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. chopped onion
    3 Tbsp. melted butter
    1 Tbsp. sugar
    1/4 tsp. basil
    1 tsp. salt
    1/8 tsp. pepper
    2 c. small cubes of toasted white bread
    2 (14 1/2 oz.) cans Contadina stewed tomatoes
Preparation
    Saute chopped onion in melted butter in saucepan.
    Add sugar, basil, salt, pepper and small bread cubes.
    Arrange 1 can of tomatoes in a buttered 1 1/2-quart casserole.
    Top with half of bread mixture.
    Repeat layers.
    Bake, uncovered, in a moderate oven (375\u00b0) for 40 to 45 minutes.
