Rosy Apple Whirls - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 c. sugar
    1 1/2 c. water
    1/3 c. uncooked strawberry jam
    3 c. peeled, finely chopped apples (for topping)
    2 c. sifted flour
    2 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 c. sugar
Preparation
    Bring the first 3 ingredients to boil for 5 minutes, then pour into a 9 x 13-inch pan, reserving 1/2 for later.
    Sift flour, baking powder, salt and sugar.
    Cut in 1/3 cup Crisco until particles are formed.
    Break 1 egg into measuring cup.
    Add milk to measure 2/3 cups.
    Beat with fork to combine.
