Southern Corn Cakes - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 egg, beaten
    1 1/2 c. buttermilk
    1 Tbsp. shortening
    1 1/2 tsp. soda
    1 Tbsp. sugar
    1 Tbsp. baking powder
    1 1/2 tsp. salt
    3/4 c. yellow cornmeal
    1/2 c. flour
Preparation
    Mix egg, buttermilk and shortening in a small bowl.
    Stir into mixture of soda, sugar, baking powder, salt, cornmeal and flour in bowl; mix well.
    Bake on hot, greased griddle until golden brown on both sides.
