Sweet And Sour Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    whole medium-size cucumbers (to fill 1 gal. jar)
    1 gal. cider vinegar
    5 lb. sugar
Preparation
    Wash cucumbers
    carefully
    with
    a
    cloth.
    Pack into a wide-mouth jar.
    Cover
    completely
    with dark vinegar.
    Cover, date and set aside for 80 days.
    Add more vinegar if any seems to evaporate.
    Pour
    off
    vinegar.
    Do
    not
    wash
    cucumbers. Slice cucumbers into
    1/2 to 3/4 inch slices.
    Pour sugar over them. Stir and
    let
    stand
    for
    1 hour.
    Put into sterilized jars and adjust
    lids.
    Submerge
    jars in boiling water for 10 minutes. Remove and
    cool.
    As the pickle mixture stands, the residual vinegar on the pickles mixes with the sugar and forms a syrup. Makes 8 pints.
