Date Pudding Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. sugar
    4 Tbsp. shortening
    1 egg, slightly beaten
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1/2 c. chopped nuts
    1 c. dates, chopped
    1/2 tsp. soda
    1 c. boiling water
    3/4 c. flour
    2 tsp. baking powder
Preparation
    Pour boiling water with soda over dates.
    Let stand awhile. Cream sugar and shortening.
    Add egg; beat well, then add salt, date mixture, dry ingredients and nuts.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for about 45 minutes.
    Serve warm with whipped cream.
