Caramel Layer Chocolate Squares - cooking recipe

50 caramels
1/3 c. evaporated milk
3/4 c. melted butter
1 German chocolate cake mix
1/3 c. evaporated milk
1 c. chocolate chips
1 c. chopped pecans
Preparation

Melt caramels in 1/3 cup evaporated milk and set aside. Grease and flour a 9 x 13-inch pan.
Combine butter, cake mix, 1/3 cup evaporated milk and pecans.
Press half of this into the cake pan and bake at 350\u00b0 for 12 minutes.
Remove from oven. Sprinkle the chocolate chips over this and then spread the caramel over the chips. Cover with the remaining cake mix batter.
You may have to take little bits between your fingers and drop them onto the caramel; a little slow but well worth it. Return to oven and bake for 18 minutes.
Cool before cutting.
