Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 gal. medium size cucumbers
    8 small white onions
    1 large green pepper
    1/2 c. salt
    5 c. sugar
    1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
    1/2 tsp. ground cloves
    2 Tbsp. mustard seed
    2 tsp. celery seed
    5 c. vinegar
Preparation
    Slice cucumbers thin.
    Add onions and pepper (cut in thin strips).
    Add salt and cover with cracked ice.
    Mix thoroughly. Let stand 3 hours.
    Drain.
    Mix remaining ingredients.
    Pour over cucumber mixture.
    Heat to boiling; place in hot sterilized jars. Makes 8 pints.
