Creamy Caramels - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sugar
    pinch of salt
    2 c. light corn syrup
    1/2 c. butter
    2 c. half and half
    1 tsp. vanilla extract
Preparation
    Combine sugar, salt and corn syrup in large heavy saucepan. Bring to a boil.
    Cook to firm ball stage (245\u00b0 on candy thermometer), stirring occasionally.
    Add butter and cream gradually so that mixture continues to boil.
    Cook, stirring constantly until mixture returns to 245\u00b0.
    Remove from heat.
    Add vanilla, mixing well.
    Pour into buttered 9-inch square baking pan.
    Cool; turn onto waxed paper.
    Cut into 3/4 inch squares. Wrap squares in waxed paper.
