Taffy - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 c. sugar
    1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
    1/2 c. light corn syrup
    1/4 c. water
    2 tsp. butter
    1/2 tsp. vanilla (or other flavoring)
Preparation
    Combine sugar, cream of tartar, corn syrup, water and butter in saucepan and mix well.
    Cook to a hard ball stage, stirring frequently (hard ball stage about 265\u00b0).
    Remove from heat; add vanilla.
    Pour into buttered pan.
    When cool, pull until it gets satiny and porous.
    Twist into a rope; cut into 1/2 or 1-inch pieces.
