Never Fail Chocolate Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. white sugar
    1 c. butter or Crisco
    2 1/2 c. white flour
    1/3 c. cocoa
    1 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. baking powder
    2 tsp. soda
    1 c. sour cream (can put 1 Tbsp. vinegar in milk to sour)
    3/4 c. hot water
    4 egg yolks
    2 tsp. vanilla
    4 egg whites, beaten (add last and fold in)
Preparation
    Cream sugar and butter; add egg yolks one at a time and beat well.
    Sift dry ingredients together three times.
    Add alternately with sour cream and water.
    Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites. Bake in 3 (9-inch) layers about 25 minutes in a 375\u00b0 oven.
