Layered Lettuce Salad - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 head lettuce, broken into bite sized pieces
    1 c. celery, diced
    4 hard-cooked eggs, chopped
    1 (10 oz.) pkg. frozen peas
    1/2 c. green peppers, diced
    1 small onion, chopped
    8 slices bacon, fried and crumbled (optional)
    2 c. mayonnaise
    2 Tbsp. sugar
    4 oz. Cheddar cheese, grated
Preparation
    Place lettuce in a 13 x 9 x 2-inch glass pan.
    Layer celery, eggs, peas, peppers, onion and bacon, salting each layer lightly. Mix together mayonnaise and sugar; spread over the top as you would frosting.
    Top with grated cheese.
    Chill 8 to 12 hours or overnight.
    You may add a layer of cooked, chopped meat of your choice.
