Apple Chunk Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 c. diced apples
    3/4 c. molasses
    1/2 c. water
    1/2 c. shortening
    1 c. sugar
    2 1/2 c. flour
    1 1/2 tsp. soda
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1/4 tsp. cloves
    1/4 tsp. nutmeg
    1/4 tsp. vanilla
    raisins or nuts (optional)
Preparation
    Cook the apples in the molasses and water until soft.
    Add the shortening and cool. Add the sugar and stir well. Sift the flour, soda, salt, cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg.
    Mix dry ingredients into the first mixture.
    Add the vanilla.
    Raisins or nuts may also be added.
    Bake in a 325\u00b0 oven for approximately 45 minutes.
    Test occasionally.
    May serve with whipped cream or serve it up warm from the oven.
