Grandma Mables' Shortbread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 1/4 to 4 3/4 c. flour
    1 c. brown sugar, tightly packed
    1 lb. butter
Preparation
    Cream butter; add sugar and beat well.
    Add about 4 1/4 cups of flour slowly and mix until dough cracks (use hands if necessary).
    Roll out 1/2 to 3/4-inch thickness.
    Cut and place on ungreased baking sheets.
    Decorate with cut up cherries.
    Bake in slow oven, 275\u00b0 to 300\u00b0, until medium brown, 20 to 35 minutes. Cool on rack.
    Store tightly covered.
    May freeze.
    Can be made in food processor.
