Mock Pink Champagne - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. sugar
    1 c. water
    1 c. grapefruit juice
    1/2 c. orange juice
    1/4 c. grenadine syrup
    1 28 oz. bottle ginger ale chilled
    Twists of Lemon peel
    Maraschino cherries on stems
Preparation
    Combine sugar and water in sauce pan; simmer uncovered, stirring constantly until sugar dissolves (approximately 3 minutes).
    Pour mixture in punch bowl; and mix with remaining ingredients except ginger ale.
    Add ginger ale just before serving.
    Add a Maraschino cherry to each glass and a twist of lemon peel.
