Canned Apple Pie Filling - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 1/2 c. sugar
    1 c. cornstarch
    2 tsp. cinnamon
    1/4 tsp. nutmeg
    3 Tbsp. lemon juice
    1/2 grocery bag (5 1/2 to 6 lb.) medium apples
    2 to 3 drops yellow food coloring
Preparation
    In a large pan, blend first 4 ingredients and 1 teaspoon salt. Stir in 10 cups of water.
    Cook and stir until thickened and bubbly.
    Add lemon juice and food coloring.
    Have apples already peeled, cored and sliced.
    Pack apple slices into hot fruit jars, leaving 1-inch headspace at top.
    Pour bubbly sauce over apples, leaving 1-inch headspace.
    Adjust lids.
    Process in boiling water bath for 15 minutes for pints and 20 minutes for quarts.
    Yield: 6 to 8 quarts or 12 to 14 pints.
