Apple Pie Filling - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 1/2 c. sugar
    1 c. cornstarch
    2 tsp. cinnamon
    1/4 tsp. nutmeg
    3 Tbsp. lemon juice
    6 lb. apples
    4 tsp. salt
Preparation
    Blend first 4 ingredients with salt.
    Stir in 10 cups water; cook until thick.
    Add lemon juice.
    Pack apples into hot jars. Add filling alternately with apples.
    Leave 1/2-inch head space. Process in a boiling water bath: 15 minutes for pints, 20 minutes for quarts.
    Makes 6 quarts.
