Hopping John - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. black-eyed peas
    1 lb. bacon pieces
    1 c. chopped onions
    1 Tbsp. salt
    1 tsp. chili powder
    1 1/2 c. cooked white rice
    1/2 tsp. black pepper
Preparation
    Soak peas overnight in water to cover.
    Strain off water.
    Add bacon pieces, onions, salt and chili powder to peas.
    Cover with water and simmer 90 minutes.
    Then add rice and black pepper and simmer for 20 more minutes.
