Turnips Au Gratin - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 c. diced pared turnips
    1 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. sugar
    2 Tbsp. butter or margarine
    2 Tbsp. flour
    1/2 tsp. pepper
    1 1/2 c. milk
    3/4 c. shredded Cheddar cheese
    3/4 c. fine bread crumbs (dry)
Preparation
    Place turnips in boiling water.
    Add salt and sugar; cover and cook 12 minutes.
    Drain.
    In saucepan, melt butter or margarine. Blend in flour, salt and pepper; remove from heat and blend in the milk.
    Return to heat and cook, stirring, until thickened.
    Add cheese.
    In a casserole dish, layer alternately turnips and cheese sauce.
    Sprinkle with bread crumbs.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown.
