Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    7 lb. cucumbers, sliced thinly
    2 c. pickling lime
    12 medium onions, sliced and ringed
    5 large bell peppers, sliced (if desired)
    2 qt. white distilled vinegar
    3 1/2 lb. sugar
    1 Tbsp. plain salt
    3 Tbsp. celery seed
    1 Tbsp. ground turmeric
    3 Tbsp. mustard seed
Preparation
    Mix pickling lime in 2 gallons of water; pour over cukes and soak 24 hours.
    Rinse thoroughly.
    Cover cukes, onions and pepper with ice water; let stand 3 hours.
    Drain well.
    Cover with vinegar, sugar, salt, celery seed, turmeric and mustard seed.
    Let stand overnight.
    Bring to a boil and let boil for 20 minutes. Pack in jars and seal.
    Yields about 10 pints.
