Ingredients

1 pkg. dry yeast
2 Tbsp. warm water
5 c. flour
1/4 c. sugar
1 Tbsp. baking powder
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. salt
1 c. shortening
2 c. buttermilk
melted butter or margarine
Preparation

Dissolve yeast in warm water; set aside.
Combine dry ingredients; cut in shortening with pastry blender until resembles coarse meal.
Add yeast mixture and buttermilk to dry ingredients and mix well.
Turn dough out on a floured surface; knead lightly 4 to 5 times.
Roll dough to 1/2-inch thickness.
Cut with 2-inch biscuit cutter.
Place on greased baking sheet.
Brush tops with melted butter.
Bake at 400\u00b0 for 12 to 15 minutes.
Makes 3 1/2 dozen biscuits.
May freeze leftovers.
Wrap in foil to reheat at 350\u00b0 for 15 minutes.
Open foil last 5 minutes.
