Hush Puppies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. self-rising cornmeal
    1 small onion, chopped
    1 egg
    1/2 c. skim or low-fat milk
Preparation
    Mix onions, egg, milk and meal.
    Drop by spoonful into hot shortening (also can be shortening left over from frying fish). Shortening should be over an inch deep.
    Turn once when browned. Remove to platter spread with paper towels to drain excess shortening.
    Serve with fried fish or any meat.
