Peanut Brittle - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1 1/2 tsp. soda
1 tsp. water
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 c. water
1 c. light corn syrup
3 Tbsp. butter or margarine
1 lb. shelled unroasted peanuts
Preparation

Butter 2 (15 1/2 x 12-inch) baking sheets.
Combine soda, water and vanilla; set aside.
Combine sugar, 1 cup water, corn syrup in large saucepan.
Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, to 240\u00b0 by candy thermometer or when forms a soft ball when dropped into water.
Stir in peanuts and butter.
Cool until 300\u00b0 (or when dropped in very cold water separates into threads which are hard and brittle).
Immediately remove from heat; stir in soda mixture thoroughly.
Pour half the candy onto warm baking sheet and quickly spread evenly about 1/4-inch thick. Cool.
Break candy into pieces.
Makes 2 pounds.
