Date Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 lb. pitted dates, chopped
    1 c. boiling water
    1/2 c. shortening
    1 c. sugar
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 egg
    1 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
    1 tsp. soda
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1/2 c. chopped walnuts
Preparation
    Combine dates with water; cool to room temperature.
    Cream shortening and sugar until light.
    Add vanilla and egg; beat well. Sift flour, soda and salt together; add to creamed mixture alternately with date mixture, beating.
    Stir in nuts.
    Bake in greased and lightly floured 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan at 350\u00b0 for about 25 to 30 minutes.
