Sweet Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 qt. cucumbers, sliced
    salt
    equal amounts sugar and vinegar
    pickling spice
Preparation
    Slice about 2 quarts cucumbers in bowl.
    Salt very heavily and let stand for 4 hours.
    Rinse in clear water, then pour boiling water to cover.
    Let stand until cool enough to stand your hand in water.
    Drain until dry.
    Mix equal cups of sugar and vinegar; for instance, 1 cup sugar for 1 cup vinegar.
    For one quart, use 1 tablespoon pickling spice.
    For 1 pint, use 1 teaspoon.
    Soaking cucumbers in a salt brine makes them crisp.
    Use 1 cup salt to 2 quarts water.
