Ingredients

2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. Crisco
1/2 c. cocoa
1 c. buttermilk
2 tsp. baking powder
2 eggs
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. allspice
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 c. jam
1 tsp. soda in 1 c. warm water
3 c. flour (plain, not sifted)
1/2 lb. pecans
Preparation

Cream the sugar and shortening.
Add eggs.
Add jam.
Mix all dry ingredients, then add alternately with liquids.
Add pecans last.
Steam for 1 hour in a 250\u00b0 oven.
