Oven Beef Stew - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 Tbsp. flour
    1 1/2 tsp. salt
    1 1/2 lb. beef chuck (1-inch pieces)
    2 Tbsp. shortening
    2 (10 1/2 oz.) can tomato soup
    1 1/2 c. chopped onion
    1/4 tsp. basil
    4 medium potatoes, cubed
    4 medium carrots, cut in 1-inch pieces
    1/2 c. dry red wine or water
Preparation
    Combine flour, salt and dash of pepper.
    Coat meat cubes in seasoned flour.
    Brown in hot shortening in Dutch oven; add soup, 2 1/2 cup water, onion and basil.
    Cover.
    Bake at 375\u00b0 about 1 hour.
    Add potatoes, carrots and wine.
    Cover.
    Bake 1 hour longer or until tender.
    Makes 6 to 8 servings.
