Mom'S Bean Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. navy beans
    1 1/2 lb. cubed ham
    1 c. onions
    2 garlic cloves, minced
    1/4 c. parsley
    1 1/2 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. basil leaves
    1/2 tsp. pepper
    1/2 tsp. oregano leaves
    1 bay leaf
    2 c. carrots
    1 c. celery
Preparation
    Place beans in a 4-quart Dutch oven with 6 to 8 cups water. Heat to boiling and let simmer for 2 minutes.
    Remove from heat, cover and let stand for 1 hour.
    Drain.
    Add 2 quarts water, ham, onion, garlic, parsley, salt, basil, pepper, oregano and bay leaf. Heat to boiling.
    Reduce heat and simmer 1 1/2 hours or until beans are tender.
