Cherokee Casserole(Yields 6 Servings) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. ground beef
    1 Tbsp. oil (Wesson)
    3/4 c. onion, chopped fine
    1 1/2 tsp. salt
    pepper
    1/8 tsp. garlic powder
    1/8 tsp. thyme
    1/8 tsp. oregano
    1/2 small bay leaf
    1 (1 lb.) can tomatoes
    1 (10 1/2 oz.) can cream of mushroom soup
    1 c. Minute rice (no other kind will do)
    6 stuffed olives, sliced
    3 slices American cheese, cut into 1/2-inch strips
Preparation
    Brown meat in oil; add onion and cook until tender.
    Stir in other ingredients in order given, except 3 olives and cheese. Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
    Spoon into serving dish; top with cheese and 3 olives.
    Broil until cheese is melted.
