1917 War Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients

1 c. corn syrup
1 c. cold water
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 Tbsp. Crisco
1 tsp. baking soda
2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder

Preparation

Put first 6 ingredients into sauce pan and cook 3 minutes. After it comes to a boil add Crisco.
When cool add baking soda dissolved in a little hot water.
Add flour and baking powder. Stir well.
