Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 quarts sliced cucumbers
    6 medium white onions, sliced
    2 green peppers
    3 cloves garlic
    1/3 cup medium coarse salt
    5 cups sugar
    3 cups cider vinegar (5%)
    1-1/2 tsp. turmeric
    1-1/2 tsp. celery seed
    2 Tbsp. mustard seed
    1-2 bags of ice
Preparation
    Cut green peppers into chunks, combine with sliced onions & cucumbers, add garlic and salt (this can be put in clean sink). Cover with ice then cover with a towel and let set at least 3 hours (overnight is best).
    Drain well, place in large pan.
    Combine remaining ingredients in sauce pan.
    Heat until sugar is dissolved. Pour mixture over cucumber mix.
    Heat to a boil & seal in hot sterilized jars.
    Makes 8 pints.
