Mrs. H. S. Avant, Sr. Cucumber Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 qt. cucumbers
    salt
    alum
    2 c. sugar
    1 c. vinegar
    3 tsp. pickling spices
Preparation
    Wash cucumbers; cut in pieces.
    Place in dish; cover with boiling water.
    Sprinkle salt and alum over cucumbers.
    Let cucumbers stand in water until water is lukewarm.
    Remove from water and rinse.
    Drain on towel.
    Make syrup of sugar, vinegar and spices.
    Boil syrup; pour over cucumbers which have been placed in sterilized jars.
    Seal and turn upside down.
