Blackberry Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. shortening
    2 c. sugar
    4 egg yolks
    2 tsp. baking soda
    1 c. buttermilk
    1/2 tsp. allspice
    1/4 tsp. cloves
    2 tsp. cinnamon
    2 c. blackberries, drained and crushed
    4 egg whites, stiffly beaten
    1 c. chopped nuts
Preparation
    Cream shortening, sugar and beaten egg yolks.
    Dissolve soda in buttermilk; dredge berries and nuts in flour.
    Add spices. Beat in egg whites and mix all together.
    Makes 3 (9-inch) layers. Bake at 350\u00b0 for 25 to 30 minutes.
