Ingredients

3 qt. firm figs
5 lb. sugar
1 3/4 c. water
3 lemons, sliced
1 oz. cinnamon sticks
24 cloves
Preparation

Wash fruit carefully in colander.
Let sugar and water come to a boil.
Add lemons, figs and spices, tied in a bag.
Boil slowly until figs are tender and clear, about 1 hour.
Lift fruit carefully into sterilized jars; cover with juice.
Seal while hot. Yields 4 pints.
