Hearty Green Pea Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. dry green split peas
    1 large carrot, diced
    1 large onion, minced
    2 medium red potatoes, diced
    2 T. butter
    3 pinches of thyme
    2 pinches of basil
    2 shakes of nutmeg
Preparation
    Wash peas.
    Drain.
    Add 2 qts. water to peas, season to taste.
    Cook 2 hours add potatoes, carrots, onions, herbs, and butter.
    Simmer until vegetables are tender and soup is to desired thickness.
    Can add ham bits or smoked sausage, etc., if desired.
