Homemade Chili - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 lb. ground beef
    1 Tbsp. shortening
    1 large onion
    1 clove garlic
    1 can chili powder
    1 can tomato puree
    1 qt. mashed canned tomatoes
    1 c. catsup
    1 Tbsp. whole cumin seed
    1 Tbsp. red pepper (1/4 tsp. for milder flavor)
    2 bay leaves
    1 qt. hot water
Preparation
    Chop onion and garlic (fine), browning in shortening.
    Add chili powder and bay leaves.
    Add meat.
    Add puree, mashed tomatoes and water, then cook slowly for 1/2 hour, or until meat is done.
    Thicken with 1/2 cup flour or enough to thicken it. Salt to taste.
