Apple Dumplings - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    6 to 8 large apples
    sugar
    cinnamon
    2 c. brown sugar
    2 c. water
    1/4 tsp. nutmeg
    3 Tbsp. butter
    2 c. flour
    1 tsp. salt
    2 tsp. baking powder
    3 Tbsp. sugar
    3/4 c. shortening
    1/2 c. milk
Preparation
    Peel and slice the apples into the bottom of a deep baking dish (9 x 9-inch approximately).
    Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar.
    Make a syrup of the brown sugar, water, nutmeg and butter; heat until hot.
    Blend the flour, salt, baking powder, sugar and shortening.
    Add the milk; stir until moistened.
    Drop small portions of dough on apples, leaving space for dough to expand. Pour hot syrup over dumplings and apples.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 45 minutes.
    Serve plain or with ice cream.
