Grandma Helen'S Chinese Beef Skillet - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. top round steak, cut in 1/2 inch strips
    4 Tbsp. cooking oil
    1/4 c. chopped onions
    1 clove garlic, minced
    1 c. water
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. pepper
    2 c. sliced celery
    1 (6 oz.) pkg. Oriental pea pods
    1 (4 oz.) c. sliced water chestnuts
    2 Tbsp. cornstarch
    1/2 c. water
    3 Tbsp. soy sauce
Preparation
    Slice
    beef
    in
    very thin strips (easier when slightly frozen).
    Preheat
    frypan
    on
    medium heat for 1 1/2 to 2 minutes. Add
    oil
    and
    stir.
    Fry\thalf
    of
    beef\tuntil brown; remove. Brown
    remainder in onion and garlic.
    Return browned beef to pan. Add celery; cover and simmer for 5 minutes, then add
    pea pods and water chestnuts until tender.
    Transfer meat and
    vegetables to serving dish.
    Combine cornstarch with 1/2 cup of
    water
    and soy
    sauce;
    stir
    into pan juices.
    Cook, stirring
    until mixture thickens.
    Pour over meat and vegetables.
    Serves 4 to 6.
