Ingredients

1 1/2 c. sugar, divided
1 c. flour
7 Tbsp. cocoa, divided
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 c. skim milk
1/3 c. applesauce
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 1/4 c. hot water
Preparation

Combine 3/4 cup sugar, flour, 3 tablespoons cocoa and baking powder.
Blend in milk, applesauce and vanilla.
Beat until smooth. Pour into an 8 x 8 x 2-inch pan.
In small bowl, combine remaining sugar, brown sugar and 4 tablespoons cocoa.
Sprinkle evenly over batter.
Pour hot water over top.
Do not stir.
Bake 40 minutes at 350\u00b0.
