Bread (And Cookie) Pudding - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 pt. half and half coffee cream
    3 eggs
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1/4 tsp. nutmeg
    1/2 c. sugar
    1/4 tsp. salt
    dry bread, cookies or cake; cubed (3 to 4 c.)
Preparation
    Beat eggs gently (don't overbeat).
    Add sugar, salt, nutmeg and vanilla; blend.
    Add cubed bread, cookies or cake; stir. Place saucer on pudding for few minutes so dry ingredients don't float and soak up liquid.
    Cook in top of double boiler with water barely simmering; cook until table knife stuck in center comes out clean.
    Serve with scoop of ice cream for each serving.
