Leona'S Caramels - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. butter
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1 (15 oz.) can sweetened condensed milk
    1 1/4 c. brown sugar
    1 c. light Karo syrup
    1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Melt butter in heavy 3-quart saucepan. Add sugar and salt. Stir in syrup.
    Mix well. Gradually add milk, stirring constantly. Cook on medium heat until firm ball stage (245\u00b0) or for about 15 minutes. Remove from heat. Add vanilla and pour into well buttered 9 x 9-inch pan. Cool for 4 to 5 hours.
    Flip on board and cut with sharp knife and wrap each piece in wax paper.
